On Saturday May 23, 2015 175 children ages 3-13 and a few dozen senior citizens lined the banks of the hatchery pond for the annual fishing derby. This is one of the headline events as part of the White Sulphur Springs Dandelion festival. This event is sponsored by the local Rotary chapter and the Friends of White Sulphur Springs NFH. An estimated 600 fish were caught during the derby. The hatchery staff was quite busy this day as part of the staff also attended the Rainelle West Virginia Memorial Day Festival. They provided displays and information about the hatchery as well as an interactive activity making fish print T shirts. In total, hatchery staff provided outreach to upwards of 500 people on this sunny day in the heart of the Mountain state!
