Midwest Region, December 10, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Craig Czarnecki and Christie Deloria, East Lansing Field Office, attended the third annual Janice Lee Fenske Award and Breakfast, held at the Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference in December 2007.  The ceremony honors Jan Fenske, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources' fisheries biologist who passed away in March 2005.  The Award Breakfast recognizes students who embody the characteristics that made Jan Fenske a remarkable fisheries biologist:  commitment to the resource, personal character and integrity, drive to mentor, and involvement in professional societies.  It also provides students with an opportunity to network with peers and leaders in resource management.  This year's award recipients were Melissa Wuellner, a fisheries student at South Dakota State University, and Emilie Travis, a wildlife student at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Approximately 25 outstanding students from Midwest universities were invited and participated in the event.  Fish and wildlife management professionals representing universities, state, federal, and non-profit organizations also attended.  Craig Czarnecki and Christie Deloria participated in the event and interacted with many of the students.  They met Ms. Travis and discussed her research on avian collisions with communication towers in Wisconsin.
