Arlington Field Office hosts 15th Annual Fishing Event for YMCA Summer Camp Children
Southwest Region, June 21, 2007
Print Friendly Version

On June 21, 2007, the Arlington Texas Field Office held its 15th annual fishing event for local YMCA Summer Camp children at Brockdale Park near Allen, Texas.  Thirty-two volunteers from various federal and state agencies and outdoor advocate groups entertained and educated approximately 100 children on subjects ranging from boating/water safety, fish biology, conservation, ecology, and fishing techniques.  A notable addition to this year’s event, the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center showed and discussed several live birds of prey.  As always, the fishing was the most exciting part of the day for the children.  The fish cooperated nicely allowing every child to land numerous large catfish and bluegill.  At the end of the day, the exhausted crew believed that they had given the children a better appreciation for nature and spending time outdoors.
