On June 9th, the Uvalde National Fish Hatchery held a free fishing day to celebrate National Fishing and Boating week.  The hatchery event included children from ages 3 to 15 years and adults over the age of 55.  Participants included approximately 750 individuals from the local communities.  Visitors were very excited to participate in the event, which was evident by their smiles.  The event promoted a partnership with local community, while also providing an exciting day for the little anglers.  Approximately 500, 3-pound catfish were caught by the anglers.  The event was sponsored locally through the donation of hotdogs, sodas, and water by Wal-Mart, Super S Foods, HEB Foods, and Coca Cola.  Bait was provided by Uvalde Meat Processing.  Special thanks go out to Richard Christian from Washington DC, Jennifer Fowler-Propst from the Regional Office, and Robyn Cobb, Tom Shearer, and Amber Miller from the Corpus Christi Ecological Services Office for all their hard work.
