MOU signed for Bonita Creek restoration

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the City of Safford signed an MOU that provides a framework for cooperation in the management of the Bonita Creek watershed, in Graham County, Arizona.  The MOU recognizes the importance of providing access, operation and mainenance for all municipal water system facilities, and protection and enhancement of the cultural and natural resources within the Bonita Creek watershed.  The MOU provides for  the City of Safford's continued use of its water allocation in the Bonita Creek watershed as a source for municipal water; it recognizes the BLM's management of the area as part of the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area; and it provides for the management of Bonita Creek as a native fishery, including fish barrier construction, stream renovation to remove nonnative fish species, and reintroduction of native fish species.
