The City of Bethel Youth Center and Yukon Delta Refuge partnered this year to bring a variety of wildlife activities to more than sixty K-6th grade children every afternoon during the week of Oct 1 to Oct 7.  It all began on Saturday, Oct 1 when Donna Hanley, Education Specialist, along with Bethel Youth Center staff made animal cookies and put on a shorebird and raven puppet show. The rest of the week’s after school programs were filled with activities such as making and painting plaster tracks, playing nature and bird bingo, learning how to paper fold a sand hill crane (origami), and viewing a wildlife video.  The final day concluded with a wildlife parade with special guest stars: Honker (blue goose), Emperor (emperor goose), and, of course, what some consider Alaska’s state bird- a giant mosquito street puppet!
