The Chesapeake Forest Restoration Strategy Team, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, was one of four recipients of the Two Chiefs’ Partnerships Awards, signed by the USDA Chiefs of the Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service. The awards, sponsored by the National Joint Forestry Team, recognize exemplary employees and projects that support conservation and forest stewardship. Sandra Doran of the New York Field Office led the wildlife habitat team, and other Service employees, including Jennifer Greiner, Sherry Krest, Andy Lowell, Andrew MacLachlan, Kathleen Patnode and Noelle Rayman participated in a team of over 30 partners tasked with completing a strategy for the 6-state watershed. The strategy, finished at the end of 2012, advances innovative and collaborative approaches to targeting forest restoration in areas of greatest opportunity and benefit, focusing on wildlife and fisheries habitat, mine lands, agroforestry, urban and community forestry, and contaminated lands such as brownfields.
