Wyoming Species of Concern

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) supports the development and implementation of State wildlife action plans. State wildlife action plans outline the steps that are needed to conserve wildlife and habitat before species become rarer and costlier to protect. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s wildlife action plan, A Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy for Wyoming, provides a long-range conservation plan to conserve Wyoming’s Species of Greatest Conservation Need.

In addition to addressing the Species of Greatest Conservation Need, the Service’s Wyoming Ecological Services Field Office also encourages taking steps to protect and conserve species of concern for our office. We highlight these species for several reasons:

They are currently or have recently been under review to determine whether they may warrant listing under the U.S. Endangered Species Act
They were recently delisted and project planners may be unaware of what is needed to ensure the species continued recovery
They are protected under Federal laws and warrant additional attention in project planning
They are species that are considered likely to become candidates or proposed for listing in the near future and for which the Service has entered into conservation agreements

Effective planning now can help ensure the long-term conservation of these species and remove threats that may contribute to the future need for listing under the Endangered Species Act. For more details on the species, please select from the links below:
