Winthrop National Fish Hatchery (WNFH) is located in Okanogan County along the beautiful Methow River in north central Washington. The WNFH is one of three hatcheries (Leavenworth, Entiat and Winthrop), along with Mid-Columbia Fisheries Resource Office, that comprise the Leavenworth Fisheries Complex (LFC). The Complex facilities were constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation as fish mitigation facilities for the construction of Grand Coulee Dam.
The 42 acre site lies ninety miles north of Wenatchee and sits just outside of the town of Winthrop on Twin Lakes Road. The Winthrop NFH is open to visitors year-round. The hatchery provides special events and educational activities that are co-sponsored with hatchery partners. People can enjoy a guided or self-guided tour throughout the facility and grounds. The hatchery is staffed by employees who currently raise spring Chinook, steelhead, and coho salmon on site. Please call 509-996-2424 for more information about group tours and dates of hatchery activities and special events.
