The Basic Base layer developed for the National Wild Fish Health Survey web mapping interface. Displays North American countries, urban areas, surface water features, and U.S. State borders. Includes annotation for features at appropriate scales.
The United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) National Wild Fish Health Survey Database (NWFHSDb) has been available to the public since September 2001. The database contains data on pathogen occurrence in free-ranging (wild) populations of fish. This data is collected via the National Wild Fish Health Survey, initiated in 1996 as a collaborative effort among natural resource agencies. The survey is maintained and managed by the nine USFWS National Fish Health Centers.
The NWFHSDb displays pathogen distribution information and is based on the spatial data generated by the Fish Health Centers. The NWFHSDb itself is a geographic information system (GIS) designed to be accessed via a web browser. It offers users the ability to obtain maps of NWFHS data based on user-defined queries. Individual case reports are available for each record and search results may be downloaded in several formats for further analysis. See http://www.fws.gov/wildfishsurvey/database for more information.
Inherent in any data set used to develop graphical representations, are limitations of accuracy as determined by, among others, the source, scale and resolution of the data. While the USFWS makes every effort to represent the data as completely and accurately as possible (given existing time and resource constraints), the USFWS gives no warranty, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of these data. In addition, the USFWS shall not be held liable for improper or incorrect use of the data described and/or contained in. Graphical representations provided by the use of this data do not represent a legal description of any kind.

Boundary of the United States.
The individual 1:2,000,000-Scale Hydrologic Unit Boundaries were dissolved to create the boundary for the United States. The resulting polygon was joined to the boundary polygons for Canda and Mexico to produce a polygon representing North America.
The PolygonToLine tool in ESRI ArcInfo was used to create a boundary line file. Lines representing the U.S. coast were removed.
