Hunting Special Hunts


White River National Wildlife Refuge, the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, and the Arkansas Game & Fish Foundation are proud to announce two special hunts that will be taking place at Potlatch Conservation Education Center at Cook’s Lake during the 2013 hunting season. The following is a list of logistics and deadlines that apply to each event. Please read them carefully and if you have any questions contact Refuge Office at 870-282-8200.

Youth Deer Hunt
Event Dates: November 30 - December 1, 2013

Deer (Special Youth): Cooks Lake Only. November 30 – December 1, 2013, with a mandatory orientation on November 23rd.  Youth Quota Permit required. Limit two (one buck and one doe, no antler restrictions, Bonus Deer).  Those selected for past Cook’s Lake Youth hunts will not be selected for this years hunt as this is a one time hunting opportunity. Each selected participant will be required to have an unarmed chaperone 21 years of age or older. If a youth does not have a chaperone, one will be provided.  Treestands will be provided and installed by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Refuge staff.  There is no charge for this event. Applications must be received by October 15, 2013.

Please print or type the youth applicant’s complete name, address, and phone number on the back of an Official US postcard. Send the postcard to White River National Wildlife Refuge, P.O. Box 205, St Charles, AR, 72140.

Deer Hunt for the Mobility Impaired - Cooks Lake only
Event Dates: December 6 - 8, 2013

This event is scheduled for December 6th, 7th, and 8th - Mobility Impaired Quota Permit required. Limit two (one buck and one doe, no antler restrictions, Bonus Deer. To qualify applicants must be mobility-impaired. Mobility-impaired is defined as a permanent physical condition that severely impairs your mobility, which requires the assistance from a wheelchair, braces, crutches, or other similar aids of mobility. Applicants must also provide a letter from a physician to verify the applicant's physical condition that severely impairs their mobility without proper assistance. The level of impairment must be stated in a letter to verify the extent of the applicant's condition. The physician's letter must be on an official letterhead with the physician's original signature. To apply for this hunt contact White River National Wildlife Refuge in St. Charles, at (870) 282-2800 for an application. Applications must be postmarked by August 16, 2013.
