Youth Fishing RodeoPicture of youth fishing rodeo
The refuge kicks off National Boating and Fishing week by hosting a youth fishing rodeo in June. Any youth 12 years of age and under has a golden opportunity to hook a stocked catfish. At the conclusion of the rodeo, registered participants gather under the rodeo tent for a random drawing for prizes. For more information, contact the refuge office.

3rd Annual White River Wildlife Festival
The refuge will hold its third annual White River Wildife Festival on October 8th, 2005 at the refuge visitor center in St. Charles. The event will begin at 10am with children's activities that include birdhouse building, bird feeder making, t-shirt printing, button making, and face painting. Free boat tours will be offered on the hour from 10am until 2pm. Wildlife programs and guided walks will be offered throughout the day. The Arkansas Bow Hunters Association will have an archery demonstration area set up fro children to learn about archery safety and techniques until the close of the festival at 3pm. The Friends of White River NWR, Inc. will also sell refreshmeMobility-impaired hunter with deernts, books, and gift items.
