A series of letter and number codes has been developed to adapt the national wetland classification system to map form. These alpha-numeric codes correspond to the classification nomenclature that best describes the habitat.
Organizations or individuals have the opportunity to contribute wetlands data to the wetlands geospatial data layer maintained by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Service will provide proper acknowledgement of all data contributors and maintain data integrity consistent with DOI policy.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has produced hard-copy maps for about 90% of the nation. Standard-sized 7.5' paper wetland maps (blue-line polygons shown on USGS blue-line topographic base, size 2' X 3') can be purchased through Cooperator-Run Distribution Centers.
Digital data available on this site represent the latest, most accurate information available from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. These data are also available on The National Map. Geospatial One Stop provides access to maps, search options, articles, and other useful tools.
Data.gov features a geodata catalog that includes trusted, authoritative, Federal geospatial information. This catalog includes links to download the datasets and a metadata page with details on the datasets, as well as links to more detailed Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata information.
