
The “Arvada Celebrates its Trails” event has again joined forces with Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge and Majestic View Nature Center and Community Park in an expanded event to be held at both locations on Saturday June 3, 2006.
Activities begin at 9 a.m. with a hosted 22-mile recreational bicycle ride sponsored by the Denver Bicycle Touring Club. Participants should meet in the new Majestic View Nature Center parking lot on W 72nd Ave just west of Carr Street lot at 8:45 a.m.
Additional festivities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Majestic View Nature Center and Community Park, 7030 Garrison St, and at Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, W 80th Ave. and Garrison St.
Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge activities include a variety of environmental education displays and activities for kids and adults, live raptors, self-guided nature walks on their trail system, wildlife contraband, wildlife photography, and informational booths from several local organizations, including a local Volksporting group, The Rocky Mountain Wanderers.
Majestic View Nature Center activities feature raptor presentations by HawkQuest, live animal appearances by Denver Zoo, a Wildlife Workshop and Reptile/Amphibian Talk by Colorado Division of Wildlife, a native plant sale by Malara Gardens, nature exhibits, bird walk, kids environmental activities, Arvada trail maps, water conservation ideas, and booths from Mad Science and Arvada Animal Management.
Also, join us for guided 5k walks along the historic canal trails that connect Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge and Majestic View Nature Center, with free shuttle service provided between the two facilities. Complimentary refreshments will also be available at both locations. The 6th Annual Photo Contest features cash prizes, with both adult and child categories!
National Trails Day 2006 is a great opportunity to see and learn about two great nature facilities here in Arvada, as well as discover and enjoy Arvada’s world class trails and parks system. So, mark your calendars, get those cameras, bicycles and walking shoes ready, and plan on spending a few hours with us on Saturday, June 3rd.
