The Village of Tiki Island Shoreline Protection & Restoration Project

This project will protect 7 acres of eroding marsh, tidal flats, and oyster reef along the shoreline of West Galveston Bay from wind and wave erosion. Coastal Program funds will be used to assist the Village with the construction of a 1,000-foot breakwater, restoration behind the breakwater, and to perform the Texas General Land Office mandated Licensed State Land Survey.

The Village of Tiki Island, incorporated in 1982, is a residential development of 800 homes on the west side of I-45 in Galveston County, Texas, Since 1984, at least 2.35 acres of wetlands and associated coastal habitats have been lost at the project site. In addition to protecting the existing marsh, the breakwater will be designed to facilitate sediment accretion and provide substrate for marsh grass colonization within the resulting lagoon.
