Hooks Woods: Habitat Enhancement of Woodlot

The Texas Coastal Program has teamed with the FWS Partners Program to assist the Texas Ornithological Society to enhance 2.5 acres of coastal wood lot. The area will provide additional stopover habitat for trans-Gulf neo-tropical migratory birds. The site will include additional plantings of native vegetation for resting and feeding as well as sources of fresh water for drinking and cleansing. This part of the northern Gulf Coast records more arrivals of migrants than any other area on the Texas Coast. Some wood lots have been lost and few of the remaining sites have permanent protection. A fully ADA accessible public facilities will be added to this site which will allow public access and educational opportunities.

Partners: Texas Ornithological Society, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Partner for Fish and Wildlife Program, Telephone Pioneers, and the Texas Coastal Program
