Croaker Hole: Wetland Restoration Project
![]()
Funds provided by the Texas Coastal Program will
support a project to enhance tidal exchange through re-grading of the
existing road
levee and installation of functional and appropriately engineered culverts. Once
this initial portion of the project is completed, much of the historic hydrology
will be reestablished within the complex to facilitate improved hydrology and
passage of important marine organisms. In addition to enhanced inter-tidal
flows, many other coastal wetland dependant species such as waterfowl and wading
birds will benefit from elevated productivity. It is anticipated that the
following coastal habitats and their approximate areas will be affected by a
completed project: 1) enhanced Sub-tidal submerged seagrass meadows – 128
acres, 2) creation and restoration of Vegetated Emergent Marsh – 15 acres, 3)
enhanced Wind-tidal flats - 130 acres; and 4) enhanced Black Mangrove community–
10 acres.
