Brays Bayou: Stormwater
Treatment Wetland Creation
![]()
The Brays Bayou project will involve
the creation of 3.5 acres of freshwater and tidal wetlands to treat storm water
discharge. The
project will be located in Mason Park along Brays Bayou, Houston, Texas.
This is
a pilot project associated with the federal Brays Bayou flood control project.
If this pilot project is successful, additional wetland areas will be
constructed along Brays Bayou as part of the flood control project. This project
will help improve the bayou’s water quality, and provide habitat to wildlife and
fish. One of the main project goals is the treatment (removal of nutrients
and/or sediment loads) of storm water effluent with a created wetland. Storm
water effluent entering and leaving the treatment wetland will be monitored over
two years to evaluate the wetland’s ability to improve water quality.
