Alternative Methods to Protect Shorelines
The Texas Coastal Program is working
cooperatively with the Galveston Bay Foundation to identify and implement fish and
wildlife habitat conservation and restoration projects in and around Galveston
Bay; especially on private lands. The objective of this project
is to have the Foundation work with private landowners in identifying potential
fish and wildlife habitat conservation, enhancement, and/or restoration
projects. These specific projects would have to be approved by the Service and
be cost sharing in nature. The Galveston Bay Foundation wants to continue to
work cooperatively with the USFWS Texas Coastal Program to develop partnerships
and to implement habitat restoration projects throughout the Galveston Bay
system.
The Galveston Bay Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, which is dedicated to the restoration and conservation of the Galveston Bay system. The Galveston Bay Foundation has the unique expertise in the area and is well established in the cooperative ventures in fish and wildlife restoration.
The Foundation has completed and is in the process of implementing several projects which have been supported by the Texas Coastal Program such as, shoreline protection projects including wavebreaks, cordgrass plantings, fencing projects, and earthmoving.
