Breeding Bird Point Count Surveys

Interior Forest Breeding Bird Point Counts 

In 1997 five routes consisting 62 points were created in mature hardwood forested habitats on the Big Sandy and Duck River units to monitor for breeding songbirds. The initial survey design selected was recording periods of 0 to 3-minutes and 3 to 5-minutes and bands of <50 meters and >50 meters. A <25 meter band was added in 2000.  

Each route has been surveyed every year since 1997. The data has been provided to Tennessee Partners in Flight (PIF) where it is entered into a statewide database to monitor regional population trends. Vegetation data has also been collected at the points on three routes.
