Ritidian to reopen to the public on Sunday, December 17

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will reopen the Guam National Wildlife Refuge (the Refuge) at Ritidian, including Ritidian Beach, on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Ritidian has been closed due to physical and species recovery efforts after Typhoon Mawar in May.

On the reopening date, Refuge staff invites the public to attend the Refuge’s 30th anniversary celebration between 10:00am to 2:00pm across the main beach parking at Ritidian. During the celebration event, attendees may go to Ritidian’s caves and/or create holiday eco-crafts.

Guides will escort attendees to explore two caves and see ancient CHamoru pictographs. Visitors will use natural and/or recycled materials to create holiday decorations and eco-crafts. Some natural or recycled materials will include coconut husk, cardboard, and bamboo. Both activities do not require pre-registration.

The Refuge will resume Ritidian’s normal operational hours for the public Wednesday to Sunday from 7:30am to 4:00pm beginning December 20. The Refuge is closed on federal holidays, including Christmas and New Years Day, and during hazardous ocean conditions.Formoreinformation,contactMarybelleQuinataatmarybelle_quinata@fws.gov or(671)355-5096/483-6084.
