Volunteer doing habitat restorationVolunteers are the backbone for many of the refuge's programs. Thousands of hours are donated annually by dedicated volunteers helping with programs such as environmental education, refuge tours, habitat restoration, bird counts, wood duck box monitoring, and office work. New volunteers go through a short series of orientation sessions to become a member of our growing team. If you're interested in working with rehabilitated animals, please contact the Sacramento Wildlife Care Association. The refuge does not rehabilitate injured or orphaned animals.

How can I be a Volunteer?

To be a volunteer all you need is the desire and passion to help contribute to the conservation and education of Sacramento's own wildlife refuge! We know your time is valuable, so we try to match you up with projects that meet your interests and abilities as well as the refuge goals. It's a great way to give back to the environment and meet new friends with similar interests.

For more information on becoming a volunteer with the refuge, please fillout a basic volunteer application by going to www.volunteer.gov

Another great way to volunteer at the refuge is through theSacramento Tree Foundation, who holds several habitat restoration days throughout the year. To signup and volunteer through their projects, checkout their webpage at http://www.sactree.com/doc.aspx?19
