Blue Heron Trails Project

During the summer of 2005, construction started on the new Blue Heron Trails public use area. Blue Heron Trails will offer the local community and school groups year-round access to trails and wetlands literally only minutes from Elk Grove!

Focusing on environmental education and native habitats, this former vineyard will be restored and managed into native grasslands, seasonal wetlands, riparian woodlands, and more wildlife-friendly farming. School groups will be able to use Blue Heron Trails as a hands-on learning lab about the Central Valley. Although the area is a ways from being open yet, habitat restoration is currently taking place with the help of many local community groups, partners, and volunteers.
