Environmental Education Wetland

Marsh Wren Centennial Wetland is the exciting project the SLNWR Association has taken on with the refuge to help fund and restore an environmental wetland for educational programs and tours. Located adjacent to the universally accessible trail leading to the wildlife viewing platform, it is a 2 1/2 acre accessible wetland that allow a close-up view of many native wetland plant and wildlife species.

Volunteers planting Marsh Wren Centennial Wetland

In fall of 2003, plans were in place and grounds were excavated for the new education wetland. With the help of many volunteers and school groups, restoration of many native plants in the wetland continued throughout the winter and into the spring of 2004. To sign-up your school group for an educational tour, please call the refuge office at 916/775-4420.
