How does all the water get here?
Most of the water that comes to the refuge, starts in the
Sierra Mountains as snow.
When the spring thaw arrives and all the snow melts, it flows down the Carson
and Truckee rivers...

The picture will change on it's own, showing the path of the water.
And from the rivers, the water flows into the refuge. The
wildlife refuge, along with the farmers,
towns along the rivers, and the wildlife, rely upon the snowmelt and water
flowing down the rivers.
When we have very little snow in the mountains, there is very little water
to use down in the valleys.
