Special Events - Stillwater refuge staff participate in several national, state, regional, and local activities and events. Here's what we are working on now:

2013 - 2014 Waterfowl Season dates are: October 12 - 30; Nov 2 - Jan 26, 2014. Seasonal restrictions apply to Scaup, Wood Ducks and Snow Geese in the Northwestern NV zone.

National Wildlife Refuge Week

Observed October 13 - 19, and celebrates the important conservation work of America’s 553 national wildlife refuges. Many refuges plan public events to mark the occasion. It is a great opportunity to learn about refuges’ mission and discover the natural riches in your family’s backyard.

There is at least one National Wildlife Refuge located within an hours' drive of every metropolitan area in the United States. So go outside and see the wild side of life at your National Wildlife Refuge!

May 2013 Spring Wings event details.

Spring Wings 2013 was a great success, with nearly all tours filled, great weathers, cooperative birds and wildlife, and family fun activities and workshops at the Fairgrounds.

The Spring Wings Birding and Outdoor Festival celebrates International Migratory Bird Day, as well as the return of thousands of migrating songbirds, shorebirds, raptors and waterfowl to the Lahontan Valley. Guided tours are offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Exhibits, seminars, kids activities and family fun are scheduled.

Spring Wings 2014 will be in May, dates have not been set. Please visit www.springwings.org often as information is updated over the next few months. Friends of Stillwater NWRC is looking for dedicated volunteers to help with event planning, such as scheduling and leading guided tours and education activities, purchasing inventory for and operating the Spring Wings Store sales area, or coordinating Festival vendors and exhibitors.
