Use Instructions
As of the approval date, this data element will be used in any new automated system, and in any major modification to an existing system, which uses acronyms for the organizational titles used to identify Service offices by their primary program activities and/or specialized duties and responsibilities, such as Administration Office (ADMO), Ecological Services Field Office (ESFO),  Fisheries Resource Office (FRO), National Fish Hatchery (NFH), National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), etc.

To ensure compliance with the Service Information Technology Architecture (SITA), system owners are strongly encouraged to utilize this data element in existing systems. If an existing system is not in compliance, it should be modified to achieve compatibility and implement this data standard.

The organization type acronym should be used in conjunction with the corresponding Organization Type. This standard references the titles used to define Service offices by their primary facility function and/or specialized duties and responsibilities.
