As of the approval date, this data element will be used in any new
automated system, data set, database, or information application, including new Geographic
Information System (GIS) data and applications. This data element will also be used in any
major modifications to existing systems or versions of these data-related items that
identify or classify Service organizations according to their primary facility function,
program activities, and/or specialized duties and responsibilities, such as Administration
Office, Ecological Services Field Office, Fish and Wildlife Management Assistance Office,
National Fish Hatchery, National Wildlife Refuge, etc. As of the approval date, this data element will be used in any new automated system, and in any major modification to an existing system, which identifies or classifies Service offices according to their primary program activities and/or specialized duties and responsibilities, such as Administration Office, Ecological Services Field Office, Fisheries Resource Office, National Fish Hatchery, National Wildlife Refuge, etc. To ensure compliance with the Service Information Technology Architecture (SITA), system owners are strongly encouraged to utilize this data element in existing systems. If an existing system is not in compliance, it should be modified to achieve compatibility and implement this data standard. The organization type should be used in conjunction with the corresponding Organization Type Acronym whenever possible. This standard references the acronyms for the organizational titles used to define Service offices by their primary function and/or specialized duties and responsibilities. |
