| Use Instructions |
To ensure compliance with the Service Information and Technology
Architecture (SITA), which includes Year 2000 compliance, Service staff will utilize
this data element in any new or existing systems, data sets, databases, and information
applications, including Geographic Information System (GIS) data and applications. This standard adopts the FIPS PUB 4-2, "Representation of Calendar Date for Information Exchange," which reinforces the Federal Government's commitment to use data format standards that will facilitate a smooth transition of systems in the Year 2000. |
