ON THIS GOVERNMENT PROPERTY. Trinity River Refuge Big Game (Deer and Hog) Hunt Announcement
Hunt Unit Description: (Maps and written directions to units at the bottom of the page) The Page unit is located on the west side of the Trinity River, south of Highway 105. All legal weapons allowed except handguns. Total acres 2,200. Number of permits to be selected by lottery - 16. The Brierwood unit is located west of Gaylor Lake, south of Highway 105. All legal weapons allowed except handguns. Total acres 1,800. Number of permits to be selected by lottery - 14. Only unit which will allow limited all- terrain vehicle use for disabled hunters (with appropriate documentation). The McGuire unit is located near McMurtry Road (CR 2087). Weapons are limited to Shotgun and Archery only. Total acres 550. Number of permits to be selected by lottery - 10. The Butler unit is located off of Bazzoon Road (CR 2187). Weapons are limited to Archery only. Total; acres 250. Number of permits to be selected by lottery - 8.Regulations: Hunting will be in accordance with all applicable Federal and State regulations during these two, 9-day seasons. We do not allow the use of dogs, feeders, baiting, campsites, fires, bicycles, horses, or all-terrain vehicles (ATV) (except one unit which will allow limited ATV use for medically documented disabled hunters). Carts or wagons rolled in are okay, but this area is usually wet and muddy during winter months. You must hunt within the confines of the boundary as defined by the map, signs, and boundary paint. You are allowed to scout the area one week before season starts. You should have a compass or GPS. Cell phones may not work. Hunters may be expected to walk long distances to reach some areas available to hunting. No weapons will be allowed during the designated scouting week. Minimum distance between hunt parties is 200 yards. Hunters must visibly wear 400 square inches of hunter orange above the waist AND a hunter orange hat or cap. Youth hunters must be under the direct and visual supervision of an adult 18 or older. Permit holder MUST be hunting on same days with guest or youth hunter. You must enter and park in designated areas only, near entrance gate. Hunters may enter the Refuge no earlier than 5:00 a.m. Hunting will be permitted from ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset. Permit holders may set portable, free-standing, and Non-Damaging climbing blinds during the designated scouting week before the hunt. The Refuge is not responsible for anything left on the property over night. Driving nails, spikes, or other metal objects into trees or hunting from trees that require removing branches greater than one inch in diameter is prohibited. No flagging or markers are to be used. The use of paint for marking is prohibited. Blinds must be labeled with name of permit holder. No hunting or erection of blinds along main roads or trails winding through the unit. To get accurate hunt data, we will require all hunters that are selected to submit a data log card that will be sent with the hunt permit. Those failing to return a completed card will not be allowed to hunt the following year. YOU MUST DISPLAY THIS CARD ON DASHBOARD WHILE HUNTING.
