Art and science have long been intertwined, and you need to look no further than John James Audubon for confirmation. With that in mind, I would like to invite Texas’ Home Schooled Youth to participate in Texas’ Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program. The Junior Duck Stamp is a nationwide program that pairs science, the arts, and other core subjects to teach a greater awareness of our natural resources.  Curricular activities include exposure to migratory waterfowl and their habitat and well as lessons to help increase students’ knowledge and appreciation of migratory birds and providing activities geared to motivating students to take on active roles in conserving these species.  As part of the program, K-12 students are invited to submit artwork depicting ducks and geese in the annual art competition.  Students do not have to complete the curriculum to participate in the art contest.  Each year in Texas we send out over 100 ribbons to winners of the competition.  The art competition judging is an open event held at the Bass Pro Shop in Pearland, Texas in late March 2009.   

Last year, Texas’ Best of Show won the 2008 National Competition.  You can review all 12 first place winners on this site and get the full rules and an information packet. 

• Matted or otherwise mounted art will be disqualified
• Enclose application form and reference documentation form (for Groups III and IV).
• Art work with signatures will be disqualified.
• Ensure all artwork is 9” X 12” finished.
