Refuge Rules

To protect habitat and keep Hagerman NWR a safe place for wildlife and people, please follow these simple rules:

  • Please drive only on designated roads.
  • Firearms, bows, and other weapons are prohibited, except during special hunts. Cased and unloaded weapons may be transported through the refuge on travel routes.
  • Hagerman NWR should be a quiet place to enjoy nature--please leave fireworks, loud radios, and other sound equipment at home.
  • Help us protect wildlife habitat--swimming and water skiing are not allowed on the refuge.
  • Keep wild things wild--all plants and animals are protected and should not be disturbed or collected.
  • Overnight camping is not allowed on the refuge. There is camping available north of the refuge.
  • Fires may be built only in picnic area fire-pits and must be extinguished before you leave the area.
  • Please leave only your footprints; take all litter with you.
  • All pets outside your vehicle must be on a leash and under the control of the owner at all times.
