It is crucial that fire crew members stay in shape throughout the year in order to respond to wildfires and conduct prescribed burning operations locally and throughout the country. Fire crew members are given one hour, three times per week to dedicate to physical training; they are tested twice per year through a competitive Refuge fitness test and annually through the nationally recognized Pack Test which entails walking three miles with a 45-lb. pack in 45 minutes or less.
