endangered birds, the Golden-cheeked Warbler and the Black-capped Vireo,
at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. Other excursions lead

Sparrow Fest

Expect a good chance to see more than 15 species of sparrows in one day! This sparrow workshop includes classroom sessions and field trips on the refuge. BALCONES CANYONLANDS CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT

New birders to experienced birders are invited to participate in the all day Balcones Canyonlands Christmas Bird Count on January 4th. This event is sponsored by the Travis Audubon Society, but the substantial portion of the survey is conducted on Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.
For folks coming from the general Austin area, meet at the Cedar Park McDonalds (at the intersection of U.S. Highway 183 and RM 1431) to receive your assignment at 6 a.m. For those coming from the general Marble Falls area, meet for your assignment at Ski’s in lago Vista at 7:15 a.m... Ski’s is at the intersection of FM 1431 and Lohman’s Ford (Lohman’s Crossing) Road.
The count wraps up with a dinner and “countdown” at the Texas True Grits Grill in Jonestown starting about 6 p.m.
