Refuge staff have been working on a long-term management plan for the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Complex. This plan, called the Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP), will serve as a guide for managing the Refuge over the next 10 to 15 years. The planning process offers a unique opportunity for the Service to involve individuals and the local community in the future management of the Refuge. You can play a |

Statement for Aransas NWRC
Lying along the mid-Texas coast and consisting of barrier island, saltmarsh, grasslands and woodlands, Aransas National Wildlife Refuge serves as one of our country’s valuable stopovers for migratory birds. The Refuge will continue to provide this vital habitat for thousands of migratory birds like songbirds, raptors, shorebirds, waterfowl and pollinators to rest and refuel before continuing the arduous journey to and from tropical destinations. Additionally, the Refuge serves as the winter home for the endangered whooping crane, provides habitat for native wildlife and other important Refuge resources. Future conservation efforts lie in the Refuge’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of a natural area and enhancing the central flyway migration corridor through preserving, acquiring and restoring coastal prairie and woodlands. Land management practices and research will strive for sound stewardship of these natural resources. Wildlife abundance will continue to attract visitors eager to experience the Refuge. We will provide the public a quality experience through public awareness, expanded education, interpretation and compatible recreational opportunities. |
