Volunteers ![]() Volunteers for the Anahuac NWR make many wonderful things happen for wildlife and people! They construct boardwalks and cabinets; teach outdoor education classes and lead nature walks; band geese and help restore native prairie; run the Visitor Information Station and maintain trails; and many other valuable efforts that make the Refuge a better place. RVers looking to spend an extended amount of time in the area can live on the Refuge while volunteering! You are only an hour and a half from historic Galveston, an hour from Houston, and fifteen minutes from some of the best wildlife watching, fishing and hunting that the state of Texas has to offer! For 24 hours per couple (48 combined) or 32 hours for individuals, the Refuge provides full hook up (electricity, water and septic) on site. Be part of the effort. Become a volunteer!
