Hosted annually, Family Fishing Day includes hands-on demonstrations and activities designed for both beginning and experienced anglers. Held during National Fishing and Boating Week, the event takes place on the first Saturday in June, coinciding with the state of Texas' free fishing day – the only day of the year anglers can fish or crab without a fishing license. Activities typically include crabbing for kids, target casting, fish identification, introductory fishing, fly-fishing and more.
