Fishing at Salt Plains

Fishing is permitted on designated areas of the refuge, subject to the following conditions (all state fishing regulations apply in addition to refuge regulations):

* Fishing is permitted April 1 - October 15.
* Designated areas open to fishing includes Sand Creek, the East and West Channels of the Salt Ford River north of Hwy 11 only. In addition, the East channel may be fished south of Hwy 11 on the east bank for a distance of one mile.
* No boats are allowed in the river channels.
* Bonham Pond: A pond for children 14 and under and mobility impaired individuals is available near refuge headquarters.

Families Fishing

* The reservoir is open to fishing with closed areas marked by buoys and/or signs. Closed areas on the reservoir include Ralston Island and the west shoreline. In addition, the area west of Ralston Island will be closed to all fishing each year beginning September 10 (See map with regulations download).
* Trotlines are to be removed when fishing is completed.
* Trotlines are not permitted within 500 feet of the shoreline of the Jet Recreation Area.
* Posts used to secure or anchor trotlines must reach a minimum of two feet above the water surface and must be marked so that they are clearly visible to boaters.
* Taking any type of bait from refuge lands or waters is not permitted.
* Camping and fires are allowed in the Jet Recreation Area only.
* All pets must remain on a leash.
