Christmas Bird Count Itinerary

The Christmas Bird Count is a wonderful opportunity to get involved with a national birding survey!

The annual Salt Plains CBC is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2006; 7 am until dark. All levels of birders are invited.

The count area is a 15 mile diameter circle with the refuge at the center of the circle.

Anyone who wants to participate should be at the refuge headquarters by 7 a.m. At that time, groups will be organized and areas assigned. Bring a sack lunch and binoculars.

There is a $5.00 participation fee to support costs of management, data compilation and results publication. All participants will recieve the CBC issue of American Birds.

For more information, contact Lloyd or Glenda Leslie (580) 363-0237 or cynthiaoder@4grc.com.

Feeder Watchers also needed! As a feeder watcher, you would count the largest number of each bird species that visited your bird feeder at any one time during the day, December 16. (For example, if 2 chickadees came at one time, then it'd be 2, but if 3 chickadees came later, then it would be 3 (not 5).) If you plan to be a feeder watcher on Dec 16, please call or email using the above contact information.
