Environmental Education

Educators are invited to bring their school or class to visit Washita National Wildlife Refuge for an educational outdoor experience. Special Use Permits are available in support of education, and educators are encouraged to utilize the area as an outdoor classroom. Educational opportunities are available to both public and private schools, home-schools, as well as scouting groups and other interested parties.

Refuge staff members are available to give programs at your school and serve as a tour guides on field trips to the refuge. Education programs are tailored to meet the needs of your class or group. Class presentations or tours may be scheduled by contacting the Refuge Office via phone, fax or e-mail.

Some specific subjects teachers may find useful to introduce prior to visiting the refuge include migration, adaptations, food webs, predators & prey, waterfowl, wetland values, prairie ecosystems, botany, and zoology.
