
The 3,150 acre Wildlife Management Unit is managed cooperatively by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. The management unit consists of three separate areas: Check Station Unit, Airport Unit, and the Pennington Bottom Unit. Limited hunting opportunities are allowed in accordance with federal and state regulations and season dates. The special regulations listed below also apply and are strictly enforced.
SPECIAL REGULATIONS
Registration
Alll hunters must check in and out daily by using the self-registration boxes located at various hunter access points.
Access
Vehicle access into the Check Station Unit from October 1 to March 1 is permitted only for waterfowl hunting. No access is permitted prior to 5 a.m. No off road driving is permitted.
Methods
Hunting is restricted to Archery and Shotgun only. STEEL SHOT IS MANDATORY FOR ALL GUN HUNTING regardless of the species being hunted. Possession of lead shot, lead slugs, rifles, or pistols is prohibited. Deer hunting is by archery methods only.
Waterfowl
The Wildlife Managerment Unit (3 areas) is open for waterfowl hunting until 12 noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays only. Waterfowl hunters are required to be off the unit by 12 noon.
No hunter check station is operated. Blind or pond selection is on a "first come" basis. Only waterfowl hunters may drive into the Check Station Unit. Sign and blind selection begins at 4:30 a.m. No entry before 5 a.m. is permitted. Hunters waiting for entry time are encouraged to coordinate with other hunters which blind or pond they have chosen to hunt. Teller Pond and Blind #14, and Blind #27 (Hog Pen Blind) are reserved for use by handicapped hunters who posses a Non-ambulatory Permit to Hunt from a Motorized Vehicle issued by the ODWC. These hunters only are authorized to drive off road to gain access to these locations. Provided that these three locations are not selected by a handicapped hunter by 5:30 a.m. they may be chosen by any hunter. Decoy use is mandatory for waterfowl hunting. Boats and retrieving dogs are allowed. Dogs must remain under control of their handler.
Deer
Archery deer hunting is allowed in accordance with the State archery season. Gun deer hunting is not permitted.
Portable or temporary stands may be utilized. No spikes or other damaging items may be driven into trees. Stands may remain in place no more than 14 days. Federal regulations prohibit baiting for deer on this area.
Dove
Dove hunting is permitted September 1 through September 30th only. Steel shot only.
Upland Game
Rabbit and squirrel hunting is prohibited from October 1 until the close of the dark goose season. After the close of the dark goose season, rabbit and squirrel may be hunted. Steel shot only.
Turkey
Hunting is allowed during the spring shotgun season and during the fall archery season in accordance with state regulations. Steel shot only.
Feral Hogs
Feral hog hunting is permitted year-round by archery. Feral hogs may be hunted with shotgun and steel shot year-round except during deer archery season. Pursuing with hounds, horses or mules is prohibited. Feeding, baiting, and trapping of feral hogs is prohibited.
Furbearers and Predators
Hunting, pursuing with hounds or trapping is prohibited.
