are held off the refuge, either at the Byron Fish Hatchery
Watchable Wildlife Area or the Great Salt Plains State Park.

Visitor's Center will be open all day. Come
in and view our exhibits, grab a button with the 2010 Winning
Artwork on it and learn about the importance of Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. |

Fish Hatchery Watchable Wildlife Area - Visit the nature center for hands-on fun for the entire family. Each family can build their own bluebird nestbox to take home with them! |

Wildlife
Photography Session with renowned wildlife photographer Duane Angles. Enjoy a presentation about photographing these secretive subjects.
Workshop participants will have classroom/field time. |

Crystal Digging Contest- Back by popular demand! The digging contest will be located at the Salt Flats Dig Area. Registration begins at 9AM. Prizes will be awarded in 2 categories of Best, Largest, Smallest Hourglass Blade and Crystal Cluster. Shovels for rent on site. |

Native Plant Walk - Join local botanist Dr. Paul Nighswonger at the refuge to learn about the flora and fauna of Salt Plains. Meet at the refuge headquarters. |

Rehabilitation - Tandy Keenan, a biologist and
reptile rehabilitator from Texas County, will talk about
working with reptiles. Tandy will also demonstrate techniques
to identify venomous snakes and spiders. Adults and kids,
alike, will enjoy learning about these misunderstood creatures. |
