Wildlife Tour

The Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge will be conducting "Wildlife Tours" during June (see tour schedule for exact dates). The public will have an opportunity to view wildlife on a bus tour of Pinchot Loop in the Special Use Area. A unique feature of this season is the young buffalo and longhorn calves. The tours are led by members of the Association of the Friends of the Wichitas.

Reservations for the programs are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis by telephoning the Visitor Center weekdays. Please see the tour schedule for the dates that reservations are taken.

The tours will originate at the Visitor Center. Visitors may obtain a Refuge leaflet and map from one of the dispensers located at each of the five entrances.

All tours will last approximately three hours. Due to the length of the program, children must be at least eight (8) years of age to participate. A $5.00 reservation fee per participant will be collected at the beginning of the tour.

Interested persons are advised that the Refuge's public interpretive program is intended for individuals and family units. Only one family's reservation will be accepted per telephone call. We regret we cannot offer group tours but invite all interested individuals to call for reservations which are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations must be made by calling on the following line only: (580) 429-2151, weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
