The Prairie Trail

Enjoy a short stroll along this ½ mile self-guided nature trail loop at the Refuge Headquarters. The trail meanders through short-grass prairie, around an acequia (a traditional water delivery canal), wetland and a wooded wind shelterbelt area with opportunities to see diverse birdlife.

The prairie trail begins at the refuge office entrance gate. Visitors are welcome to walk the prairie trail at any time. If you are visiting the refuge at a time when the office and entrance gate will be closed, please feel free to use the small parking area located just outside the entrance gate, where you will also find refuge brochures.
