Volunteer Opportunities

Bosque del Apache NWR needs volunteers to greet visitors in the visitor center, give refuge tours for school groups and the general public, staff the fee booth, take tour reservations, help with marketing the Festival of the Cranes (February - May), do interpretive writing and artwork, help coordinate the volunteer and environmental education programs, heavy equipment operator, general maintenance, and mechanic’s helper. Volunteers are most needed during the late spring and summer; positions fill up fast during the fall and winter!

The refuge has 15 RV hook-ups and three apartments for volunteers. Applications for the fall/winter season need to be in by March. A 4-month stay (November 1 - February 28) is required for fall/winter, with a 40-hour work week. A 2-month stay is required for new volunteers the rest of the year. Full hookups, propane, and free laundry facilities provided.
