Guided
Tours
Arivaca Cienega Bird Walks are led by Audubon Society members every Saturday
morning, November through April. Meet at the trailhead at 8 am, ¼
mile east of Arivaca. No reservations needed, free of charge.
Brown Canyon Nature Walks are on the second and fourth Saturday, November
through April. The 5-mile leisurely hike follows a sycamore-lined stream
in the lower reaches of the Baboquivari Mountains. Climbing 700 feet in
elevation, the trail reaches a natural bridge in the upper canyon. Brown
Canyon is accessible by guided walk only, for a $5 fee. Reservations required.
Nature
Workshops
Educational overnight workshops are offered at Brown Canyon by The Friends
of Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. Fee includes meals and lodging
at the rustic Environmental Education Center in Brown Canyon, in the foothills
of the Baboquivari Mountains. Guest scientists instruct workshops on topics
such as birds, raptors, plants, insects, herpetology, geology, and astronomy.

National
Wildlife Refuge Week
Refuges nationwide celebrate the National Wildlife Refuge System during
the second week in October. Buenos Aires NWR offers special programs free
to the public.
Christmas
Bird Count
The Buenos Aires Christmas Bird Count is part of a nationwide census of
wintering birds. Teams survey a 15-mile circle on the Refuge, tallying
as many species and individual birds as possible. A meal and compilation
party follows. Fee: $5 plus meal.
Migratory
Bird Day
On or near the second Saturday in May, the Refuge sponsors a spring migration
count.
