Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is the lead Federal agency responsible for conserving and managing the nation's fish and wildlife resources. The New Mexico Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program helps the Service fulfill its mission to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife and plants by providing technical and financial support to private landowners and other nonfederal landowners in New Mexico who want to improve fish and wildlife habitat on their properties. Through the Partners program, wetlands are being restored and riparian (streamside) areas and streams enhanced through changes in grazing management, removal of non-native vegetation and planting native vegetation. Uplands, including prairie grasslands are being managed to improve habitat for sensitive grassland species. Education opportunities are often provided through these projects with school children, neighbors, and friends. If you are contemplating development of a project that meets the goals of the program, you can apply for funding through the Partners program by filling out an application form. You can use the on-line application form or download the paper (PDF) form using the buttons at the top of this page. The form should include a general description of the project, the habitat and species it will benefit, the proposed project's location and the anticipated costs. The application can be submitted at any time. Projects are evaluated and rated on habitat value and funding decisions are usually made in the spring of each year.
