Education and Outreach at the ARLES involves the
loaning out of educational resource trunks and public presentations. The
"Endangered Species Trunk" contains numerous hands-on materials (including
confiscated endangered animal hides, tusks, etc.), videos, pamphlets, and
curriculum guides related to the topic of endangered species and their
conservation. The "Conservation Trunk" features items useful for the
teaching of wildlife conservation/environmental education in general with an
emphasis on wetlands. These two trunks may be checked-out by any local
school, scout troops, or other interested groups or individuals. ARLES
staff biologists give presentations to local conservation groups, colleges, high
schools, etc. on topics such as threatened and endangered species, conservation
of natural resources on private lands, careers in the biological field, and
other topics related to fish and wildlife conservation in general. Also,
staff biologists maintain booths at various public events, such as events held
in honor of
Earth Day or
Migratory Bird Day, to promote appropriate topics such as endangered species
and migratory bird conservation and the Partners for Fish and Wildlife program.
The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with
others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants and
their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
