My name is Cindy Osorto and I am participating in the U.S.F.W.S. Youth Ambassador Program Office of Law Enforcement located in Miami, Florida. I am currently a senior in Miami Senior High School. I was born in Miami but was raised in Guatemala for my first five years with my grandma. Some of my hobbies include hanging out with friends, doing community service, networking, reading, and being a movie fanatic. Due to my strong compassion for animals, I became a vegetarian in December 2007. I became passionate about it the more I researched, and learned that the meat industry has a connection to water pollution, deforestation, and other environmental exploitation. I have taken Marine Science, AP Environmental Science, and in the 2010 summer I worked as a canvasser with a nonprofit organization called Environment Florida. All of these experiences combined, as well as a few others, have led me to be absolutely sure that I want to make my future career an outlet for my passion of defending animals and the environment.
Most people in my generation are attracted to the “green” iconic idea, but I don’t think most people are properly knowledgeable on the environment’s real state. I believe that the Ambassador Program will help me learn more about animals as a whole, the government’s stand on current environmental protection, various acts and treaties, possible career pathways, and a chance to experience a work environment. Most of all, I hope to gain a realistic and rational view, leaning towards optimism, on Mother Nature and its components.
