Internships

Internships are generally associated with college-aged folks. Some interns are students; others have graduated already. Though there is no maximum age requirement for the program, we generally recruit young professionals, in the hope that we can identify the "best and brightest" in their fields to encourage them to seek future employment with the Fish and Wildlife Service.

Internships come in all "shapes and sizes". Many internships focus on biological work. Some refuges offer "general internships" which are designed to expose the intern to as many aspects of refuge work as possible. Some sites offer educational internships which focus on all the aspects of the Visitor Services program of the Fish and Wildlife Service. And, some positions are very specific to program areas or species, such as Fire and Red Wolf internships.

Most stations require a 3-month minimum commitment. Some stations offer 6-month or even one-year internships.

- Use the links at the top of the page or visit any Refuge or Hatchery web page directly to look for intern possibilities. Also, feel free to contact the station and chat with them.
